Position Summary The Machining Technician develops and utilizes materials, equipment, systems to produce components and final products. Job Duties Works from print drawings, process documents, and uses a wide variety of tools, tooling, fixtures, jigs, and measuring equipment to make machine and equipment set-up adjustments and changeovers. Works with Engineering and Production to develop, set-up, run and qualify the first production piece/first article for compliance to engineering and quality specifications. Assists operators or sets up, adjusts, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs multiple conventional and Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machines as required and works with operators to assure quality and quantity of production. Provides training, work instructions and direction to operators relative to: basic and complex machine operator techniques, product quality requirements, measuring techniques, and measuring equipment use and care. Develops, analyzes, and interprets Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts and data; takes necessary and appropriate action to return process into control, quarantines product in question and, in concert with supervision, determines disposition of product. Performs preventive maintenance. Maintains and makes available all tooling, jigs, fixtures, and other items necessary to set-up and/or changeover machines and equipment. Evaluates all tooling jigs, fixtures, and other items to determine necessary repairs and refurbishment. Evaluates technical problems, machines, equipment, and system down conditions and repairs. Provides input to management, engineering, quality, and product development groups relative to machine, equipment, process, and product improvement. Establishes and maintains a safe and healthful working environment in accordance with OHSA requirements, to include proper use of machining best practices, proper housekeeping, machine safeguarding, and personal protective equipment. Assists with the implementation of lean principles and methods, engages in activities that create a continuous improvement environment, sustains lean processes, suggests areas of improvement in quality, cost, delivery, and safety, and actively supports lean, 5S, and value stream management initiatives. Is highly visible and promotes hands-on, high involvement approaches to problem solving. Fills in for absent operators when demand requires. Performs other tasks as may be requested to assure the effective and continuous utilization of assets. Education Requirements High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Experience Requirements Five years machining experience on multiple machine technologies to include two to five axis mills, grinders, multiplex, and turning centers experience. Reporting to the Quality Supervisor the Quality Auditor role is involves performing inspection and quality check reports. What a typical day looks like: Audits processes, tests and inspects products and/or develops, compiles and evaluates statistical data to define and maintain quality and reliability of products. Working from engineering drawings, specifications, schematics, diagrams, written descriptions, layouts or defined plans to perform complex engineering testing, checkout, First Article Inspection, root cause research, internal corrective actions and supplier correction actions. Selects processes to be audited from primarily the manufacturing areas and checks for a variety of features, including ESD (electro-static discharge) and handling practices, documentation, training and process integrity. Perform receiving inspection and develop Incoming Quality Control Plans Scrap disposition at MRB in less than 24 hours. Previous experience utilizing Microsoft office including excel charts and pivot tables and PowerPoint presentations Records audit data, applying statistical quality control procedures. Evaluates data and writes reports to validate or indicate deviations from existing standards. Provides factory hold up to identify and resolve issues associated with purchased parts, materials and manufacturing. Recommends modifications of existing quality or production standards, programs or reports to achieve optimum quality within limits of equipment capability. Download quality information from quality system to be used for QA reports. Performs out of box audits (OBA) as required. Assure that the Customer implementation activities are in place. Validate the tooling and gauges are working properly. Send gages out for calibration, maintain calibration records. The experience we’re looking to add to our team: Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Demonstrates advanced functional skills, which may be used to conduct on-the-job training and/or lead/guide other employees. Demonstrates broad knowledge of functional techniques and has input to process improvements. Has awareness of and may apply new techniques.
