The customer relations aspects of the job tend to be somewhat more diversified, however, most problems are resolved using past precedent. Work has periodic stress related to an increased volume of service calls placed and occasional contact with dissatisfied customers. Physical effort is required to move objects on wheels that may weigh up to 400 pounds and be able to lift and carry objects that weigh up to 50 pounds. Requires frequent walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting when installing equipment, i.e., computers, controllers, color laser copiers, projectors, etc. Frequent stooping, bending, squatting, and kneeling are required to service equipment at floor level. Tool cases and assorted service-related tools weighing in the range of 25 to 50 pounds must be carried to a variety of machine locations. Often these locations are upstairs. You’ll run cold pressing operations end‑to‑end, ensuring every segment meets exacting standards before it heads to downstream manufacturing. A day in your second-shift world 2:30 p.m. — You review the work order, organize the correct tooling, and verify die components for height and parallelism. You assemble the die set in the cold press, dial in machine parameters, and make a first-off run. Throughout the shift, you perform in-process checks with a micrometer (height, length, thickness) and confirm each segment’s mass on a precision electronic balance. You capture quality and completion data, collaborate with Quality Control on inspection techniques and standards, and keep equipment clean and ready for the next order. Provides input to management, engineering, quality, and product development groups relative to machine, equipment, process, and product improvement. Establishes and maintains a safe and healthful working environment in accordance with OHSA requirements, to include proper use of machining best practices, proper housekeeping, machine safeguarding, and personal protective equipment. Assists with the implementation of lean principles and methods, engages in activities that create a continuous improvement environment, sustains lean processes, suggests areas of improvement in quality, cost, delivery, and safety, and actively supports lean, 5S, and value stream management initiatives. Is highly visible and promotes hands-on, high involvement approaches to problem solving. Fills in for absent operators when demand requires. Performs other tasks as may be requested to assure the effective and continuous utilization of assets. Education Requirements High school diploma or general education degree (GED) is required. Experience Requirements Five years machining experience on multiple machine technologies to include two to five axis mills, grinders, multiplex, and turning centers experience. Knowledge of basic measuring and testing equipment. Working Conditions Work is performed in a typical manufacturing environment with exposure to load noises and dangerous machines and chemicals when on the plant floor. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
