Summary: Vighter is seeking Interventional Radiology Technologists (IRTs) to provide patient care support at the Columbia, SC VAMC. Interventional Radiology Technologists are responsible for the direct and indirect care of patients to ensure that the quality of the studies adhere to established standards. Principle Accountabilities: Performs, under the direction of an Interventional Radiologist, a full range of Radiological procedures including Angiography, Venography, Operating Room Radiography, interventional procedures and fluoroscopic studies as the service workload dictates. Performs the technical functions related to all complex imaging procedures such as biopsies, Angiograms, Venograms, Embolization, Catheter Thrombectomies, thrombolysis and arterial/venous stents. Ensures any necessary setups such as biopsy trays and interventional trays, are prepared an in conformance with strict sterile techniques. Must be able to perform common exams listed below: Biopsies Drainages Stent placement Angiograms with Interventions CO2 Angiography Balloon Angioplasty Arteriovenous (AVF) procedures with interventions EVAR (AAA endograft procedures) Tunneled HD Catheters (placement and removal) PICC Line placement/removal Venograms Venous procedures IVC filter placement/removal Embolizations Port placement/removal Must adhere to 2026 National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG) standards/guidelines Must be continuously alert to the patient’s condition and other disorders. Adverse reactions require immediate attention so that harm does not come to the patient or equipment. Ensures that all documentation required for the completion of exams is done in VISTA CPRS. Validates all images and corrects incorrect information prior to sending to VISTA for interpretation by the Radiologist. If deletion for VISTA is required, the proper documentation must be presented for deletion of images from the medical record through the PACS Administrator and/or ADPAC Coordinator. Help to maintain effective control for the Radiology Department by coordinating organizing and executing the work potential to expedite workflow patterns with the department. Assures that procedure rooms are always stocked with necessary supplies, with special attention to emergent equipment and supplies. Alerts supervisor when supplies are needed. Must recognize and report major equipment malfunctions within a timely manner Ensures that all equipment is in proper working order prior to use. Removes and tags defective equipment and notifies DRT Supervisor or Chief Technologist. Responsible for making routine calibration on equipment. Keeps abreast of technological advances in the Radiology field. Successfully completes all required educational classes and successfully receives all Continuing Education Units (CEUs) as governed by the ARRT, to maintain and active status with the ARRT. Completes all education in TMS in timely manner. Work with Medical Support Staff to schedule and prepare patients for examinations and explain procedures to patients while performing studies. Obtain pertinent diagnostic examinations for the ordering provider. Correlates the clinical history with the test to be performed. Maintains records and files of exams performed on patients. Includes the maintenance of patient registration and editing of patient exams in the computerized information system. Properly identifies patient images. Essential so that mistaken identity of patient images does not occur. The Technologist must be certain the patient ID band and the request are identical. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge and Skills: Must have exceptional customer service skills. Employees shall be technically proficient in the skills necessary to fulfill the job requirements, including ability to speak, understand, read and write English fluently. Ability to work in a fast-paced changing environment with limited supervision Excellent organizational, scheduling and prioritization skills. Education: Graduate from an approved School of Interventional Radiologic Technology. Qualifications: Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience in specialty. Certification: ARRT (R) and additional advanced certification by ARRT in another imaging modality. Basic Life Support (BLS). License: Have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license in any state, territory, or commonwealth of the U.S and/or certification as required. Duty Hours / On-call Requirements: The expected duty hours for this position are 8 hours per day and 5 days per week. However, this key position supporting 24/7/365 operations which may require work to be conducted in the day, at night, on weekends, and during holidays.
