Airport Safety Officer I
Purpose of Classification: An employee in the classification serves as a safety and information ambassador. They are responsible for assisting airport passengers and visitors with traffic flow, pedestrian safety, information, directions, and directs vehicle traffic to the proper areas of the airport. This employee will look after parking facilities and may write parking violations as needed. They will also assist the Department of Public Safety during emergency situations and observe and report safety issues or situations at the terminal, parking facilities, or other airport property as needed. Operates a two-way radio and cell phone to communicate with other airport personnel and to assist travelers. Direct vehicular and pedestrian traffic at the main terminal of the Columbia Metropolitan Airport to ensure the curbside is free of unattended vehicles. Acts as a liaison between the airport, the traveling public, tenants, vendors, and ground transportation companies to ensure the airport’s rules and regulations are followed.
