JOB Supervises the preparation of structural designs and plans and the day-to-day operations of a structure design team. Responsible for the structural design, analysis, and review of complex highway structural systems and components using applicable methods conforming to the latest AASHTO, FHWA, and SCDOT specifications and policies. Lead Design Engineer – Automotive Components
What You’ll Do Lead the design and development of complex, precision automotive components from concept through production release. Create, modify, and validate detailed 3D models and drawings using Pro-E/Creo; perform tolerance stack-up and GD&T analysis to ensure manufacturability and micron-level fit/reliability. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (manufacturing, quality, and suppliers) to optimize designs for tight-tolerance machining, assembly, and long-term durability. Own design projects end-to-end, ensuring compliance with specifications and standards; recommend design modifications to improve performance, cost, and quality. Conduct design evaluations, testing, and failure analysis to validate designs and implement corrective actions. Contribute to new product introduction by aligning designs with APQP, DFMEA, and control plan requirements in partnership with manufacturing and quality engineering. What We’re Looking For Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent technical degree with relevant design experience). 5-7+ years of professional design engineering experience; emphasis in designing internal automotive components (engine, powertrain, transmission, fuel system, hydraulics, pneumatics, or electromagnetic systems) Proficiency in Pro-E/Creo (Must Have) with strong 3D modeling and drafting skills. Proven ability to take designs from concept through release, with ownership of CAD modeling, tolerance analysis, design validation, and manufacturability. Solid understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up, and precision fit/design principles. Hands-on experience with PDM workflows (Windchill or equivalent). Background in designing components with tight tolerance machining, hydraulics, pneumatics, or electromagnetic/magnetic systems is highly preferred. Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams and driving projects to completion.
