About the role The Nuclear Company is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented QA Engineer – Program & Project Delivery to join our Quality team in Columbia, South Carolina. The QA Engineer – Program & Project Delivery is the Quality Assurance team's generalist: a mid-career engineer who supports the Director of Quality Assurance across programs and projects in all four QA lanes — enterprise governance, supplier and partner assurance, program implementation, and quality services. The role turns the Director's priorities into finished work across program development, procedures, quality records and metrics, and assessment support, and provides quality support to new greenfield and brownfield deployment projects as they are authorized. The engineer works daily with the QA leads, the contract Lead Auditor, and counterparts in Engineering, Procurement, Project Management, Construction, and Licensing. The position offers unusually broad exposure for a mid-career QA professional, with a defined growth path toward senior lead roles as the organization scales. Responsibilities Support the Director of Quality Assurance in developing, implementing, and maintaining the enterprise quality program, including the QAPD and its supporting procedures. Develop and maintain QA procedures and program documents under the procedure roadmap, in coordination with subject-matter experts across functions. Support quality integration on new greenfield and brownfield deployment projects as they are authorized — project quality plans and quality requirements in design, procurement, construction, and testing. Maintain quality records and objective-evidence practices so the program remains complete, retrievable, and audit-ready. Establish and report QA metrics, trends, and program status that support leadership decision-making. Support internal and supplier assessments, audits, and surveillances, including follow-up of findings through corrective action (assessment conclusions remain with qualified auditors). Provide cross-program QA support to supplier assurance, program implementation, and quality services as priorities require working-level supplier and contractor contact in coordination with the Supplier & Partner Quality Lead. Coordinate QA actions, interfaces, and commitments across Engineering, Procurement, PMO, Construction, Services, and Licensing. Experience 5+ years in quality assurance (typically 5–10), including 3+ years working under ASME NQA-1 and/or 10 CFR 50 Appendix B programs. Strong technical writing — procedures, reports, and records that survive review with minimal rework. Demonstrated generalist range: hands-on work in at least two QA functions (procedures / document control, records, audits, supplier quality, project quality, or corrective action). Highly organized and self-managing — takes a loosely defined ask and returns finished, accurate work; strong EDMS and Microsoft Office proficiency. Bachelor's degree in engineering or a technical discipline, or equivalent quality assurance experience. Preferred Experience supporting nuclear plant design, construction, or commissioning (AP1000, SMR/MMR, or other new-build programs). Audit team participation or auditor training; ASQ CQA earned or in progress; NQA-1 Lead Auditor certification (past or present). Corrective-action program / operating-experience exposure; metrics or dashboard tools (Excel, Power BI). Familiarity with ISO 9001 / ISO 19443; ERP / MES systems and standard quality tools; exposure to startup or first-of-a-kind environments. Demonstrated experience leading and supporting union craft workforces in maintenance, outage, construction, or field service environments, with a strong understanding of union work practices and field execution. Strong technical expertise in one or more mechanical disciplines, with the experience and credibility to serve as a trusted subject matter expert for customers, field teams, and technical stakeholders. Proven ability to assess technical talent, identify critical skill gaps, and coach, teach, and develop craft personnel and technical specialists. About the role The Manager, Mechanical FieldWorks is responsible for building, leading, and growing TNC FieldWorks' mechanical capabilities, with a focus on developing and deploying highly skilled union craft and specialty technical teams for complex maintenance, outage, and project work across nuclear, power generation, and energy-adjacent markets. This role combines deep mechanical expertise with crew development, customer leadership, and field execution. Working closely with customers, union halls, field personnel, and company leadership, this individual helps identify critical skill needs, build and develop high-performing crews, and establish a dependable pipeline of technical talent. As an early FieldWorks leader, the Mechanical Manager will help stand up the mechanical organization, develop future technical leaders, and build trusted relationships with customers, key stakeholders, and union partners. Responsibilities Field Operations & Technical Leadership Lead the planning, coordination, and oversight of mechanical maintenance, inspection, repair, installation, troubleshooting, commissioning, outage, and specialty project work, ensuring union craft teams are positioned for successful field execution. Provide technical leadership and oversight for mechanical field work, ensuring work is performed safely and in accordance with customer requirements, plant procedures, industry best practices, OEM recommendations, and applicable codes and standards. Partner with customers and internal teams to define project scopes, technical requirements, staffing needs, schedules, and execution strategies. Serve as a trusted mechanical subject matter expert, providing technical expertise to support planning, workforce readiness, and resolution of complex field, equipment, and execution challenges. Support proposal development, technical estimating, bid preparation, and execution planning for new FieldWorks opportunities. Crew & Technical Capability Development Build and develop high-performing mechanical crews by identifying the technical skills, experience, and leadership capabilities required for customer and project needs. Assess workforce capabilities and identify critical skill gaps, specialty talent needs, and areas requiring additional technical development. Partner with Training and field leadership to develop technical training, qualification, and workforce development strategies that strengthen crew readiness and capability. Coach, mentor, and develop craft professionals, technical specialists, and emerging field leaders, with an emphasis on technical excellence, accountability, and continuous learning. Identify and develop trusted subject matter experts and specialty talent who can support complex work and future FieldWorks opportunities. Capture crew performance and lessons learned to continuously improve workforce selection, development, and future project execution. Union, Customer & Field Partnerships Build and maintain strong working relationships with union halls and labor partners to support workforce planning, mobilization, and access to highly skilled craft and specialty talent. Partner closely with union representatives to understand workforce capabilities, identify high-performing talent, and develop reliable pipelines for current and future project needs. Build trusted relationships with utility customers, plant leadership, and field stakeholders through strong technical credibility, responsive communication, and consistent execution. Participate in outage planning meetings, customer reviews, site visits, and technical discussions to understand upcoming needs and align FieldWorks capabilities accordingly. Serve as a key connection point across customers, union partners, field personnel, and internal teams to support successful project execution and long-term partnerships. FieldWorks Growth & Leadership Help build and scale FieldWorks' mechanical capabilities, including technical standards, workforce practices, training priorities, and field execution expectations. Identify opportunities to expand mechanical and specialty service capabilities based on customer needs, workforce availability, and market demand. Collaborate with Operations, Training, Recruiting, Sales, and Project Management to ensure FieldWorks can consistently mobilize technically qualified, high-performing teams. Support the development of future technical leaders and help establish a strong leadership pipeline as the FieldWorks organization grows. Foster a culture centered on safety, technical excellence, craftsmanship, accountability, customer service, and continuous improvement. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Power Plant Technology, Industrial Technology, Engineering Technology, or a related technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience. 7+ years of experience supporting mechanical maintenance, outage execution, or specialty field services within nuclear, power generation, energy, or other heavy industrial environments. Demonstrated experience leading and supporting union craft workforces in maintenance, outage, construction, or field service environments, with a strong understanding of union work practices and field execution. Strong technical expertise in one or more mechanical disciplines, with the experience and credibility to serve as a trusted subject matter expert for customers, field teams, and technical stakeholders. Proven ability to assess technical talent, identify critical skill gaps, and coach, teach, and develop craft personnel and technical specialists. Experience building, developing, and mobilizing high-performing crews for complex maintenance, outage, or specialty project work. Strong customer-facing communication and relationship-building skills, with the professionalism and technical credibility to work closely with utility customers, plant leadership, union partners, and field personnel. Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, OEM specifications, work packages, and other technical documentation. Experience supporting workforce planning, scheduling, resource allocation, estimating, or execution planning for complex maintenance and outage work. Working knowledge of applicable safety, quality, plant, and regulatory requirements within nuclear, power generation, or comparable industrial environments.
