This position is eligible for a $40,000 special assignment pay. The Office of Mental Health's mission to support the recovery of people with mental illnesses. We provide a complete array of medical and support services for children, adults, and families throughout South Carolina. As the Psychiatrist, working under limited supervision, perform services to the Inpatient Hospital Service. Provide service to the court system by evaluating detainees on an Acute and/or Chronic Inpatient Unit in the specialty service of the Forensic Division. Exercise medical responsibility for a hospital psychiatric unit; interview, examine, diagnose, and treat mental disorders of patients. Perform professional duties requiring analysis of broad and complex issues. Responsibilities for the Psychiatrist: Conduct court-related evaluations. Must have expert knowledge in evaluating mentally ill inmates/patients. Maintain a reasonable working relationship with various court systems in South Carolina. Provide expert testimony in court when required, which requires detailed knowledge of mental health law. Represent OMH in a professional manner. Direct medical care of acute and/or chronic forensic unit. Coordinate work of multi-disciplinary clinical team in care and treatment of detainees and/or NGRIs/other forensic patients in high acuity, high management environment. Require detailed knowledge of managing dangerous, aggressive forensic patients. Conduct daily ward rounds with staff professionals; conduct examinations and prescribe treatment. Excellent diagnostic skills mandatory due to high rate of potential for malingered psychosis and other mental illnesses in forensic population. Provide teaching/supervision of medical students and Forensic Fellows. Act as a resource consultant to staff members. Minimum and Additional Requirements Licensed to practice medicine in South Carolina. Completion of a four-year (4) residency in psychiatry and a minimum of three (3) years in a psychiatric program. Board certified/Board eligible in general/adult psychiatry. Additional Requirements Able to work with repetitive unusual patient behaviors including but not limited to combative, threatening, acting out and unpredictable violence. May be exposed to blood. Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds. Evaluates seriously mentally ill detainees from county jails who have a high potential for violence. Able to work in a high security atmosphere with detainees who have a high potential for violence. Preferred Qualifications Five (5) years of post-residency experience in psychiatric care of patients. Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus. Additional Comments Post hire, employee must: Have excellent communication skills. Be able to testify in court. Makes necessary field inspections for work being performed under encroachment permits to ensure compliance with Department policies and standards.This position will require the technician to complete Day Time Road Inspections in accordance to EDM 8. Must communicate regularly with applicants about progress of work and adherence to Department specifications and standards. Assists RME with requests for lane closures on all State roadways for parades and festivals. Works extended hours during emergencies or hazardous weather. Works with resident engineers, maintenance foremen, representatives of local and state entities, consultant engineers, district office personnel, private citizens, and Lexington County officials looking up right-of-way in files for all and advises accordingly. Maintains all right-of-way files in the maintenance office and up keep of map room. Minimum and Additional Requirements A high school diploma and two (2) years of progressively responsible engineering technician related experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Attainment of a Technician Certification in accordance with the SCDOT Technician Certification Policy may substitute for six (6) months of directly related experience. A valid motor vehicle operator's license is required. The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. Responsible for maintenance and repair to slope mowers and the hydro-axe mower. Responsible for diagnosis and repair of large and small gas and diesel engines used in heavy equipment. Responsible for service calls on equipment in emergency situations in order that equipment may be moved out of the road or loaded for transport to the repair shop. Responsible for repairs to manual and hydrostatic drivelines and transmissions on heavy equipment. Responsible for small cutting and welding jobs on equipment. Documents work performed on mechanic jobs sheets accurately capturing information which will be entered into HMMS by Supply Clerk. Assists in emergency and inclement weather operations, to include operating medium or heavy duty equipment. May include being available for extended working hours or 12-hour shifts. Minimum and Additional Requirements One and one-half (1.5) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience. Necessary Special Requirement: A valid motor vehicle operator’s license is required. Requires attainment of a Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) within six (6) months of placement in the position. The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, kneeling, pushing, pulling, grasping and physically manipulating objects of varying size, shape, weight, and material. Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. This position requires working in a large garage setting and may perform duties in an uncomfortable position for long periods of time. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. Frequently exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions, noise, and oil or grease on a daily basis. Additional Comments May be required to work overtime, nighttime, and/or weekends during hazardous weather or emergencies.
