Homegrown Hospitality Group

Director of HR (aka The People Whisperer)

Columbia, SC

Now Hiring: Director of HR (aka The People Whisperer) Homegrown Hospitality Group Location: Charleston, Myrtle Beach, or Columbia, SC (Remote? LOL. You’ll be where the people are.) This is not a remote role. This is not a “sit behind a desk and email policy updates” kind of job. This is a hands-on, in-the-field, sleeves-rolled-up gig where you'll shake hands, resolve issues, onboard folks, and occasionally remind managers that yes, labor laws do still apply—even during brunch rush. We’re a multi-brand, multi-location restaurant group, and we’re searching for a Director of Human Resources who is ready to get their boots dirty (figuratively… unless you're in a kitchen, then literally). You’ll be the one making sure our people feel supported, our systems make sense, and our payroll doesn’t cause tears (unless they're tears of joy). You’ll also be the go-to human for all things HR, payroll, benefits, and compliance—because guess what? There’s no one to delegate to. You’re it. What You'll Actually Do: Be the HR Department. Yes, the whole thing. If you want something done, you’ll be the one doing it. Payroll Superhero. Use Paycor, Toast POS, and Restaurant365 to ensure every server, cook, manager, and dishwasher gets paid correctly and on time. Onboarding Wizard. Through Paycor, you’ll make sure new hires are set up for success (and I-9 compliance). People Person IRL. Visit restaurants regularly. Chat with managers. Handle real-time problems. Build trust. High-five dishwashers. This isn’t a Zoom-and-done position. Compliance Guru. Labor laws, FMLA, COBRA, garnishments, benefit admin—you know the drill, and you make sure it’s followed. Fix What’s Broken. If a process sucks, you’ll make it better. If something’s missing, you’ll build it. And you won’t wait for permission to get started. What You Bring to the Table: At least 7 years of HR experience, ideally in restaurants or hospitality, where “fast-paced” is an understatement. You’re tech-savvy and fluent in Toast POS, Paycor, Pay Day Portal, and Restaurant365—or ready to dive in like a pro. You know how to manage benefits, payroll, employee relations, and compliance without breaking a sweat. You love working with people—in person—and believe HR should be a partner, not just a policy enforcer. You’re organized, proactive, and not afraid of jumping in wherever you're needed (including the fryer in a pinch—just kidding… mostly). This Job Is NOT For You If: You want to sit behind a laptop all day in your pajamas. You think HR is only about paperwork and compliance. You hate the idea of talking to people or walking into a kitchen. What You’ll Love: A collaborative team that actually wants HR’s help (no really—we mean it). Access to amazing food and awesome people. A leadership team that values culture, compliance, and candor. The chance to shape HR from the ground up, and be the reason our people stay, grow, and succeed. Apply now and bring your HR superpowers to the frontlines of hospitality. We’re ready for someone who’s passionate about people, driven by process, and brave enough to handle payroll questions during a lunch rush.
